If you're not to keen on the whole banging poles and wagging your ass racing scene then the Southampton freestyle trips are for you.
Skiers and boarders of ALL standards are welcome, its never too early to learn freestyle!! Seriously, I am totally rubbish! There is an awesome atmosphere amongst freestyle skiers that cannot be found on a race course, so just get involved!!
Look out for trips down to Warmwell ski slope in Dorset! (my homeland) This slope is perfect for freestyle training as the whole slope is snowflex, much safer than dendex, there are no holes to catch your hand in + it is slightly flexible for those crashes. There are two sweet kickers; a small one good size to learn the 180 360 540 etc and a bigger one for taking it to another level (apparently is possible to make a 900..hmm) also the slope has a large quarter pipe and a selection of rails. All this with a nice little drag lift and chill out area to watch.
Members of SUSSC get a sick deal which is £15 for 3 hours on the hill. This includes transport and kit rental if required. The centre has a few twin tips(not many) to rent and a load of snowboards. However I recommend finding some cheap kit to use especially boots for good fit. We will also be hitting the Southampton Alpine Centres Ramp and Rail night. The slope is unfortunately dendex but it is super close, and also perfect for making those first moves into freestyle. For the pros, the rails are pretty epic, and they also have a pretty scary quarter pipe (check out their website). Of course with all dry slopes gloves and helmets are required. It is also a good idea to wear thick clothes to stop potential scratches from the snowflex. On the trips, there are no official lessons however we will be around to give hints and tips. The club is aiming to compete in as many of the UK uni freestyle competitions as possible, these trips are extremely relaxed and gooooood times so come along even if your no pro.
