If you like having a laugh, meeting some of wickedest people around, and doing a bit of snowboarding on the side, then this is the place for you.

When we’re not defending the weak, the board team have a go at events against other likeminded university teams all over the country, ranging from the Kings Ski Club competition-talking place in Essex throughout the year- to the epic weekend in Edinburgh in November, to snow-domes (yes! real snow!) to mountains (even more snow!) There’s enough stuff happening to keep everyone involved anyway.

There’s training every Thursday night at 6 and apart from being a great place to meet new people, also gives you the chance to practice, and take your boarding to the next level. Just drop us an email to say you’re coming. All I would say is that you need to bring a long sleeve top, trousers of some sort and gloves, the rest is provided. All at an inexplicably low price too!

Snowboard events come in a variety of flavours, split between racing and freestyle. On the racing side there is a team parallel slalom, and individual slalom. All of which deserve a try. On the freestyle side of things, there is big air and slopestyle. Boarder X manages to fit well between the two. In the past few years, the teams have done really well, always progressing to the final of the nationals, and more importantly holding their head up high when it comes down to humorous songs about other unis and even more humorous fancy dress.

But it isn’t all about boarding - once you get past the endless barrage of ‘friendly’ skier/boarder sniping, there’s plenty of banter and more than plenty drink.

I’m so excited about this year; it’s going to be absolutely fantastic, I’m sure you’re just as ecstatic as I am…
