| Oh hi guys! Fancy improving your skiing and snowboarding? How about doing that while having more fun than you thought possible on ski’s or snowboards? If that’s the case then why not come on down and give racing a go. With training sessions held at the local dry ski slope every Tuesday with qualified and experienced race coaches as well as trips to some of the counties finest indoor snow domes it’s easy to see why the SUSSC Race Team is one of the biggest and undoubtedly best racing teams in the country. Last year we had six teams made up of individuals ranging from national champions to complete beginners all competing for Southampton across the country. Races attended include competition on both dry skislope surfaces and snow. Those that take place on glorious dendix include BUDS (a weekend long, banter fuelled competition to the infamous Hill End slope up in Edinburgh where thousands of students compete for victory) and the Kings rounds. These involve a series of exciting regional head to head dual slalom competitions that see only the best teams make it through to the national finals held at Brentwood ski slope. For snow there’s BUISC South a race at an indoor snowdome where individuals compete to make it through to the Finals held at a later date. Finally there’s the Main event – a huge week on all university snowsports calendars. It involves a weeklong competition taking place in the Austrian Alps this year covering the disciplines of Slalom, GS, Super G and Skier X. Over the course of last year the booty was brought home in style with the SUSSC racing team achieving an outstanding 19 podiums from both individuals and dual slalom teams! However, with all these races it’s not just about the competing. The antics found off the slope are incredible with many Susscateer’s gaining a variety of reputations after consuming one to many jagerbombs… If all of this sounds too good to be true then pop on over to the Bunfight and sign up to the biggest and best club in the AU.
