“Some people see skiing as a battle of man against nature. I see it as a partnership in an endless quest for epic moments.” Mike Douglas – Pro Skier BUSC Main Event Date: 1st – 8th April Location - Les Deux Alpes Price - £309
The Main Event is the jewel in the BUSC calendar, the final event of an action packed year. With The Main Event moving to a larger, more snow-sure resort than last year, the 2006 event will provide an opportunity for students of all ability to become involved with BUSC. The wider scope for competitors of all levels will allow for competition between athletes from one week entry level skiers through to ex-national team members. This set up will apply across the board, with competitions available for all levels of skiers and snowboarders, who wish to compete in either the race and freestyle events. The relocation of The Main Event to a tried and tested mainstream resort will not only provide the opportunity for smooth running competitions, but also provide the BUSC events staff with locations capable of providing top quality entertainment. The primary concern of the event staff for The Main Event is that every student attending has the opportunity to enjoy their own type of holiday. The only way in which this can happen is to provide a range of evening events and competitions that allow those taking part to select their activities each evening. This will allow students to take part in the evening aspects of the event as individuals, or in groups as athletes, room mates or snow sports clubs. The Main Event 2006 is the culmination of a years planning to provide an event that caters for all snow lovers of all levels, from skiers to boarders, beginners to pros and racers to freestyles. The most important aspect of BUSC, and of The Main Event, is that anyone who attends leaves with no regrets, grateful that they have taken part in one of the most unique events in the world. Christmas 2005 The most important part of any trip is to enjoy the white stuff that sadly our own fair Isle cannot provide. Which requires us to cross the water and interact with our European partners and practice our Frenglish. This year SUSSC is branching out to territories new and heading to the Three Valleys for our Christmas trip. This promises to be an awesome week of hardcore riding and partying. This year we are going with Ski Alpine and because we take so many people each year they have come up with an amazing deal for our members; When? Friday 16th - 24th December 2005 Where? 3* Self-catering accommodation in the centre of the French resort of Val Thorens, which is part of the Three Valleys. Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in Europe and with the Glacier de Peclet there is guaranteed skiing. The three valleys boasts one of Europes largest skiable areas so there will be plenty of variety no matter what level of rider you are. How much? The holiday will cost £315, which includes accommodation, return transport, ski pass, free ski guiding for intermediate upwards and a social programme with loads of drink promotions in various bars in resort. Extras There are three levels of ski and boot hire - bronze, silver and gold £49, £59 and £69. For snowboarders there's just one level, which for board and boots costs £65. We also have good deals on lessons, 10hrs @ £59 and 6hrs @ £49. The trip is an excellent opportunity for people to learn to ski or board - this year we're hoping to make this another big trip, and typically approximately 20% of people coming are complete beginners, so there's a great range of skills and abilities. We've managed to get a great deal if you are coming as a beginner boarder or skier, 6hrs of lessons and hire for £85 for skiers and £95 for boarders. Why come? In true SUSSC tradition there will be an awesome Apres Ski programme with an unhealthy amount of cross-dressing and fancy dress. The holiday is great way to meet new people at uni and is the best ski trip you will ever go on and comes with the full Greek guarantee! So if you are dissatisfied you get to marry a member of Cronks somewhat extended family. And if you can't make Christmas or wanna come twice watch out for our Easter Trip to Alp d'Huez.
